We have delved into the topic of Israel"s gas markets in past meetings of the Brussels Energy Club, particularly when BREC Associate and Israeli former-Energy Minister, Joseph Paritzky, was in town. Much continues to happen in the state of development of both East Med and Israeli gas, however. Indeed, our regular participants will recall that we opened this year"s sequence of meetings at the Brussels Energy Club with an excellent session on the prospects for the development of the Zohr gas field, in a discussion led by the former-Assistant Foreign Minister of Egypt, Dr Magdy Rady.
In this session we welcomed Gina Cohen, who offered an in depth analysis of the main aspects of the Israeli natural gas market, with a special focus on pricing, regulations and prospects for exports. Israeli gas markets expert Cohen provided valuable insights to many of the key topics drawing regular media attention, including prospective development scenarios for Israel"s main gas fields, supply and demand equations, and the location of the Leviathan rig (close to shore or in mid-sea location). She also looked at the regulatory environment underpinning gas market development, before delving into a discussion about prospective exports of Israeli gas for the regional market (ie, Turkey, Egypt and Jordan) as well as to European consumers in the EU.
This session was a must for all followers of natural gas market development in the EU neighbourhood, as well as all stakeholders following the discussion on security of the gas supply in Europe more broadly.
