Sohail Butt
Mr Sohail Butt is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales since 1979 and has over 35 years of diversified international financial management, business and strategy development experience in Oil & Gas sector in the Middle East and Pakistan. Most recently worked as Deputy Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer at Pakistan State Oil Co, the largest energy sector organization in Pakistan by turnover and earlier had successful career stints in the energy sector value chain while working with Qatar Petroleum and various subsidiary entities of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation in the Middle East in senior financial management roles.
Currently working as a CEO of Energy Energetics – A consulting firm providing business development and going forward strategy development services to major private and public sector entities in Pakistan. Mr Butt frequently contributes to print and electronic media as a writer/commentator/analyst on energy sector issues in a local, regional and global context requiring deeper research and study. Presenting papers and attending seminars on various aspects of the energy value chain including LNG/LPG/Renewable Energy potential in the Asian region with a focus on Pakistan. Advises on the development of going forward strategies during ‘energy transition’ in a complex geopolitical environment further aggravated by the COVID 19 global pandemic. A key member of Energy Think Tanks in Pakistan and Abroad.
Extensively interacted with government and regulatory bodies and private/public sector organizations in the energy sector of Pakistan and the Middle East region. Most recently engaged with International Energy Charter based in Brussels on Europen Union studies on all aspects of the energy transition, technological innovations, changing energy mix towards renewables and green Hydrogen leading to new energy dynamics and related infrastructure. Decarbonizing and achieving net ZERO carbon emissions by 2050 being the EU’s principal objective for the region that can then be replicated globally is the main area of interest. Participated in ECOWAS Conference on energy transition in Benin (West Africa) as an advisory board member of Brussels Energy Club.
