Michael Denison
Dr Michael Denison has worked with and for energy companies for over 20 years advising on political and regulatory affairs. Since 2013 he has been Senior International Adviser at bp, where he advises the company's Leadership Team and Board on how political risk and on executing the company's strategy to evolve from international oil company to integrated energy company. He is currently leading on North Sea grid strategy for an offshore wind project.
Before bp Michael was Global Research Director at Control Risks, an international business risk consultancy, where he managed a team of research analysts and led a series of complex multi-jurisdictional projects. He has also served as Special Adviser to UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband.
Michael has a deep academic background in international affairs. He read Modern History at Oxford University, where he was the Royal Historical Society Frampton Prize scholar. He holds an LLM in International Energy Law from City Law School and his PhD on Central Asian politics yielded several peer-reviewed journal articles. Since 2021 he has been Visiting Lecturer at City Law School in London where he leads the Oil and Gas Law course.
