Jan Haizmann

Jan Haizmann is a qualified lawyer graduating in Germany, UK and Belgium.

He was admitted to the German Bar in 1994.


Mr Haizmann started his career as an associate at a German law firm Graf von Westphalen, specialising in European competition law and regulation in the telecoms sector. In 1999, Mr Haizmann moved to London working as regulatory affairs manager for Enron Europe and subsequently at TXU Europe focusing on industry regulation applicable to the power and gas sector — he was in charge of competition and antitrust matters for the European region. Both companies stopped their operations. At Texas Utilities (TXU — Geneva) Mr Haizmann was in charge of managing the closure of the energy trading portfolio and negotiating compromise solutions in the context of a business closure. Mr Haizmann gained commercial experience as a gas origination manager (trader) with Glencore Energy in London.


Since 2005, Mr Haizmann has been an independent consultant to the energy trading industry, based in Brussels, advising clients on legal and regulatory aspects of energy trading. Mr Haizmann has been appointed expert in several arbitration proceedings helping dispute resolution in complex gas and power transactions. Mr Haizmann has advised on corporate strategy and on ways to improve legal and regulatory risk management for the wholesale trading business. Mr Haizmann has been managing director of Correggio Consulting which he founded as a boutique consulting in 2005 (www.correggio-consulting.eu). More recently Mr Haizmann has been managing EuropAID technical assistance projects for international donors in the context of emerging energy markets in Ukraine and Turkey.


In parallel to his consulting activities, Mr Haizmann holds different executive functions within the European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET). He is a member of the EFET Board of Directors since 2009, has served as Chairman of the EFET Legal Committee since 2006. Furthermore, Mr Haizmann was a member of the exchange council of the European Energy Exchange (EEX 2012-2020) and sits on the Advisory Board of BREC (Brussels Energy Club since 2020). Mr Haizmann attended and graduated with honours at the universities in Freiburg (1st State Exam at Law, 2nd State Exam at Law), London (Master of Laws LL.M.) and Brussels. He was admitted to the German Bar between 1994 until 2000. He is fluent in German, English, French and Dutch.
